Ray Bradbury

 

Sunday zbrushing time. Just my tribute to the late, great Ray Bradbury. I remember the bliss of finally saving enough of my allowance to buy paperback compilations of his short stories at the bookstore in the mall, and watching the TV series of his tales with my parents. It was definitely an epic moment for me at the beginning of each show, when he would look around that office full of antiques and curiosities, and proclaim "I'll never run out of things to write about in here." He once said in an interview that it was a carnival showman who singled him out in the audience and shouted, "Live Forever" that inspired him to begin writing his fantastic tales. In sharing the strange and wonderful things in his imagination with us, he has become that showman who sparks purpose in his audience. Future scientists, artists, and writers will continue to be inspired by his stories, and carry that spark on to their own careers. So the carnival showman was right after all... Live forever, Mr. Bradbury.

Old Elvis

Spending a little quality time this Memorial day weekend with tons of old DVD's...and zbrush!  I'd like to think, had he not died young, Elvis would be the awesome kind of celebrity that doesn't give a crap about appearing 20 years old forever. I imagine he'd forego the nips and tucks, and instead spend his retirement circling Graceland in one of his vintage cars waving a deep fried peanutbutter 'nanna sammich out the window at the paparazzi. Every time I see an elderly rotund gent with sideburns and sunglasses...I always wonder...hey, you never know!

Somewhere over Texas

 

I don't care how many times I fly, I will never tire of gawking out the window! It's fascinating how many isolated towns are scattered across the wilds. I believe this wee river town I spotted is somewhere over Texas...or perhaps Louisiana? The painting was done in Procreate for iPad.

Kudzu, the Bayou Elf

 

Being back home in Mississippi on vacation inspired some Zbrushin! This is Kudzu, the bayou elf. Don't be fooled by his crawdad spear, he's pleased to meetcha. Anyone who's spent any time in the American southeast has probably seen the kudzu vines covering any surface that stays still long enough for it to take root. Most people consider it a pesky weed but it does turn abandoned buildings, lampposts, and fallen trees into fantastic and mysterious shapes beneath a blanket wonderland of greenery. This little guy is right at home in a nice patch of kudzu. :)

Mr Happy

Hallo. This is Mr. Happy. Just playing about some more with Zbrush. This is an early stab at another character for my short, Overturned. :D I can't wait to activate my Zbrush upgrade and get the dynamesh function, should make experimenting so much easier! Why is Mr Happy so happy? Hey, I'm not gonna give away the ending :P Maybe the race doesn't always belong to the swift after all ;)

Hey there, four-eyes...

Ah, here is a downright cranky beastie, just messing about with zbrush for a bit. Every now and again I like to make something  like this, as a bit of a change. I had to fight the urge to put a top hat and monocle on it to friendly it up a bit. Who knows, maybe it just wants a hug? You go first, hehe.

Fishin' Gator

Spending some time on the Mississippi coast on vacation! On the way Back from the Whistlestop cafe stuffed full of fried green tomatoes, drowsy and enjoying the scenery along the canals, I spotted this sweet little pier. I just imagined Boudreux here sittin' and fishin' and enjoying the day. I did this on iPad with Procreate. It's super awesome. Not having access to my bag of photoshop tricks is really forcing me to learn! I tried a free app to rotate and resize this, but its a bit compressed now. Perhaps when I have access to photoshop I'll upload a clearer version!
